Don’t let Covid Cancel Your Christmas Party
It has been for many the most challenging year of our working lives, and as the festive season approaches not only do we all deserve some time out for fun and enjoyment, as businesses our teams really do need to have the chance to relax and socialise together.
Christmas parties not only reward our teams but help employees to get to know each other, ease tensions, and improve relationships. For happier, more fulfilled and engaged employees time socialising together is something to be prioritised. With the pandemic, most businesses have cancelled their party plans for this year, but all should not be lost.
There are many brilliant businesses that have reinvented themselves to offer a range of virtual Christmas parties. We have been researching ideas to help businesses plan an alternative, virtual celebration this year, here are some of our favourites:
DIY Virtual Party: If you have a small team and enjoy organising events yourself then try this DIY idea. Arrange for gingerbread house kits to be delivered to each of your team members, you could also include other treats such as food and drink (or pay an amount to each employee to provide their own). Organise a virtual get together and host a gingerbread house making competition. Include prizes for best costume, and finish up with some party games. There are some great game suggestions in this article.
Virtual Party Packs: Sit back and enjoy the party with a virtual activity such as an escape room, or live magic show. Party packages are run for you, and you could even get wine packs delivered to everyone before the day, ready for the party to start.
Virtual Cheese and Wine Tasting: Many wine businesses are offering virtual wine tasting, with wines delivered directly to homes. Alternatively, the organiser recommends wines to buy along with a list of complimentary cheese and charcuterie. Tastings are guided by a professional, and the parties can even be themed; the perfect opportunity to dress up for the occasion.
Christmas in a Box: For the ultimate virtual party experience we are spoilt for choice with businesses dedicated to running the whole event. From bingo to cook-along dinners, afternoon teas, artisan cheeses, and streamed entertainment.
These are some of our favourite virtual party ideas and we have included links to suggested businesses. Please do be aware that we haven’t had the time to try these parties out for ourselves yet….so do check all of the important details if you decide to book your party with any of these suppliers.
On a final note, it is useful for businesses to know that HMRC recently confirmed virtual parties for employees are exempt from tax, where the cost does not exceed £150 per head. Full guidance is expected to be published soon.
There is now only one thing left to say... let's get this virtual party started!
