Job Retention Scheme Extended
With the second national lockdown, the government extended the furlough scheme. Businesses need to be aware that they did make some notable changes:
- It is now possible for businesses to furlough employees who have not been furloughed before
- Employers will need to cover National Insurance and pension deductions, but they will not have to make any salary contribution to employees on furlough.
- From 1st Dec furlough claims cannot be used in cases of contractual or statutory notice periods during redundancy

2022 Extra Bank Holiday
An extra bank holiday for 2022 has been announced in celebration of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. It's worth adding this key date into your business planning early to help you plan employee leave effectively.
To create a four-day weekend, the change also means that the late May Spring Bank Holiday will be moved to Thursday 2nd June and the additional Bank Holiday will be on Friday 3rd June.
