Is HR on your 'To Do' list?
15/5/2017
Here we go, the start of another week. This morning, I am tackling the issues which keep getting pushed to the bottom of my 'To Do' list either due to lack of time or in the case of the second task, just because! My list starts with: write article for a magazine (I have just received a deadline reminder email this morning so it is getting quite urgent) and record my expenses for year end accounts (my accountant isn't nagging yet but it is only a matter of time). So today is the day. Today I am going to tackle these tasks and enjoy the sense of accomplishment and relief when I can tick ‘completed’ on my notepad!
When clients come to me it is, more often than not, because something has gone wrong; there is a disciplinary matter or a key employee has resigned. In many cases HR matters go to the bottom of the ‘To Do’ list unless they are causing immediate pain. Whilst I completely get that, imagine how much easier it would be to manage your employees if:
- Your employment contracts and policies were up to date with current legislation and reflect he rules and expectations of your business
- Your managers were trained to manage their teams effectively and deal with difficult issues as and when they arise.
- You knew what made your business a great place to work and were able to articulate this to attract and retain the best talent.
- You had the confidence and tools to deal with the individual who is underperforming and impacting on the morale of others in the team.
